This is a slime mold, not a mushroom
or any other type of fungi.
These pictures were taken at the fountain Creek Nature Center, near Fountian, Colorado on 28 September 2011. These creatures are capable of motion, similar to an amoeba. Typically, they are one cell, with multiple nucleus. An internet site which describes these is at waynesword.palomar.edu/slime1.htm
Kingdom: Protista The Web site Wikipedia has an entry for slime molds which says that the classification on Protista is obsolete.

Probably Slime mold. Found by Alyssa Erickson in August 2013, El Paso county CO. Not identified yet for sure. The web site www.colostate.edu/Depts/CoopExt/4DMG/Pests/slime.htm shows a slime mold that looks like this one.
