Alyssa Erickson took these photos in May 2009, at a hiking trail near Colorado Springs, CO. This is a Douglas Fir tree. This is the only Colorado conifer whose cones have the conspicuous 3-pronged bracts extending from between the cone scales, per "From Grassland to Glacier, The Natural History of Colorado" by Mutel & Emerick, page 95.
